VESP architects were commissioned to breathe life back into a period property in Malpas, Cheshire.
The five bedroom house had been extended unsympathetically and wasn’t functioning well as a modern family home; our brief was to readdress the primary circulation through the house, provide a generous, open plan kitchen / dining space and a new master bedroom at first floor.
The steel-framed, flat roofed extension sits subserviently against the main house, fabricated from buff hand-made bricks, with high performance, anodized aluminum windows beneath a ‘floating’ flat roof. Contemporary detailing highlights the transition from old to new. At first floor a new extension extrudes over the new kitchen, mimicking the rendered gable end of the existing house, but with modern touches such as the corner window.
Planning permission was achieved on this sensitive site within a Conservation area in July 2024, with construction due to start in 2025.
