Since 2006, we have established ourselves as one of the leading RIBA Chartered Architects in Devon and the South West. VESP design contemporary, high-quality architecture that roots itself in the sensitive landscapes of coast and moorland.

VESP are a team of 11 architects and designers based in South Devon. Since 2006, we have established ourselves as one of the leading RIBA Chartered Architects in the South West.

As a studio we have a shared passion for modern design, and actively promote discussion and collaboration with our clients and consultants to provide an exceptional design service. We take huge pride in our work and hope that our clients enjoy the process as much as we do.

What We Do

We specialise in refined domestic architecture, and have extensive experience of working in sensitive sites with complex constraints. Whilst our main focus is the South West, we undertake projects nationwide. Our foundation in high quality domestic work feeds into our commercial, residential, and tourism projects. We relish the challenge of working on projects with discerning clients who aspire to create beautiful and unique spaces.

How We Work

Our design creativity is complimented by our proactive approach to collaborating with clients, consultants, planning authorities and contractors. Our design information is of the highest quality, utilising modern techniques including 3D modelling, virtual reality and BIM. This allows our clients to immerse themselves in the design process, facilitates collaboration with the project team, and ensures the highest standards are met on site to achieve truly exceptional buildings.

Our Ethos

Our passion for architecture runs through the entire design process, from the ‘big picture’ conceptual ideas through to the fine detailing of construction. Our designs are modern yet sympathetic to their surroundings, and use natural, locally appropriate materials. We believe in strong relationships with our clients and encourage a holistic approach to design which evolves through presentation, discussion and reinterpretation.

Sustainability and Climate

As architects we understand that we are at the forefront of tackling the climate emergency. We are Certified Passive House Designers and understand the requirements of current and emerging planning policies for energy performance and embodied carbon. We advocate sustainable construction methods and the use of green technologies in all our projects.

We relish the challenge of designing beautiful buildings that meet our client’s aspirations whilst remaining energy efficient and responsive to the changing climate. VESP’s long term goal is to become carbon neutral and are in the process of building our own passive house office.

Work-Life Balance

We believe in creating a studio environment that promotes creative thought, enjoyment, and pride in what we do. A part of this is ensuring we have a healthy work-life balance. We therefore took the decision, as a practice, to work a four day week; We work slightly longer hours on Monday to Thursday, with Fridays off for all members of staff. This allows us to continue to provide the highest levels of service that our clients have come to expect, whilst spending more time with family and friends and enjoying the beautiful countryside we live in.
