This nomination is for the renovation and extension of a historic Georgian property in the Dartmoor National Park.
Bottor Cottage had been left uninhabited for many years, falling into decay. Fortunately the owners Sally and Philip saw the potential of the house and purchased the property and its 3 acre woodland at auction. The dilapidated rear extension was removed to allow the original proportions of the cottage to be reinstated. A new, contemporary extension which adopts the form of the cottage has been added to the rear, separated by a glazed two-storey link.
Traditional room proportions, original joinery, and a vaulted loft heighten the experience of the historic elements, whilst open plan spaces with generous glazing provide a modern counter-point. The result is a balance between old and new, creating a fantastic secluded house located within stunning grounds in the National Park.
The project could not have been such a success without the support and involvement of brilliant suppliers and fabricators such as Mandarin Stone, Amos Lighting, Fenster Architectural Glazing, TataSteel, and IKEA kitchens. Huge thanks also to our photographer Richard Downer.
