van Ellen + Sheryn have completed the full house refurbishment and extension of a character property in the grounds of Creedy Park, Crediton. This project is another successful collaboration with Goulden and Sons of Totnes.
The red brick house was once the gardener’s cottage for the Manor House estate at Creedy Park. Extended and altered over the years, the house interior needed re-ordering and opening up to allow it to function as a modern home and connect it with its considerable gardens. A front-to-back kitchen / dining room becomes the heart of the home, and connects living areas with a garden terrace to the front, and a glass-box garden room to the side.
All bathrooms within the house were re-modelled, to provide high quality, contemporary and spacious rooms.
A new terrace and veranda were constructed on the front elevation to replace an unsightly conservatory and connect the house to the garden below. This terrace steps down to a sunken garden room.
The side extension is hidden from view from the front of the house by the existing red-brick garden wall, with only a hint of what lies beyond given by the new slot-window. Moving through the archway into the rear garden, the glass-box reveals itself, and provides the new route and entrance into the home.
As well as providing the new entrance into the house, the extension doubles up as a garden room that can enjoy evening sun and the views up into the rear garden. A palette of grey, white and timber sit comfortably against the rich red tones of the brickwork.
