Van Ellen + Sheryn and Goulden and Sons Ltd. have won the Gold Award for the Best Large Extension in the recent Devon Building Control awards. This is the latest project we have completed with Goulden and Sons, who provide project management and contracting services to our clients.
The historic Dartmoor farmhouse was fully refurbish and extended on three sides. Two of the extensions provide the entrance, utility and kitchen spaces for the house, and were traditional in appearance both externally and internally. They incorporated stunning internal stonework, finishes, joinery made windows, and green-oak framing to the entrance porch.
The third extension, providing a new living room to the east of the house, is formed by a highly contemporary curved-wall-to-roof structure that wraps over a structural glass box. As a result, this light, modern room is a counterpoint to the rest of the house and gives panoramic views across the Dartmoor valley. This wall-to-roof wrap is is perhaps the first of its kind in Dartmoor.A feature bronzed-brass fireplace sits at the junction between original room and extension.
The surrounding barns will be converted into additional living space for the farmstead. This and the external landscaping will be completed in 2019. For more information on this, or to discuss your own project, please contact us.
