This months edition of Self Build and Design Magazine features a recently completed coastal project by van Ellen + Sheryn.
The project entailed the complete refurbishment of a 200 year old stone cottage, and a contemporary glass and stone extension. The successful design was well met by the South Hams District Council planners, and with construction shortly following, was completed in 2014.
The decor is light and coastal with white painted exposed timbers, oak and limestone flooring, whilst the lime-washed timber window frames give a slight Scandinavian feel to the extension.
Timber composite Velfac windows were used throughout, giving a good thermal performance and the resistance against the elements. The two Morso woodburners were installed by Dean Forge and heat the house perfectly in the winter months, whilst giving focal points to the rooms. John Lewis feature light fittings were selected by the clients and used to good effect in the new spaces.
