Planning Permission achieved for a full house refurbishment and extension in Mid Devon

Planning permission has been received from Mid Devon District Council for a new garden extension, full house refurbishment and new veranda┬áto a red-brick detached property in the grounds of Creedy Park. The house enjoys substantial gardens to the south and west which framed by tall garden walls of the same red-brick. The client’s brief was to improve the overall appearance of the house and to create an improved connection to the garden spaces.

The existing uPVC conservatories that were actually forming a barrier between the house and garden were removed, and the front elevation was re-ordered with larger windows and a traditional veranda to bring a clean modern-traditional look. Dark grey metal windows add some mid-century character to the house. A tall slot window within the garden wall to the side gives a hint of something more contemporary behind.

A new garden room / entrance room has been created, nestled between house and garden wall. This is simply formed by two walls of glass and a flat metal roof to keep the addition light and unobtrusive. A semi-covered seating area beneath the roof overhang further enables the inside-outside living possibilities, and brings the western garden into better use and connection with the house.

Substantial landscaping and terracing down the sloping lawn will create various outdoor eating / seating areas for the family’s use; it also helps to further anchor the house into the garden landscape.

Construction is intended to commence in the Spring.
