Broadhempston Village Hall gains planning permission

The proposed new village hall at King’s Close Field in Broadhempston received planning permission in February, with work on site due to start at the end of March 2015. The proposals received unanimous support from both the local authority and the community of Broadhempston.

The proposed new design has been radically adapted from the original permitted scheme, and van Ellen + Sheryn have strived to achieve a contemporary and unique architecture utilising vernacular agricultural forms and cladding and detailing them to achieve a contemporary appearance. Black stained timber cladding and black profiled sheet roofing create a singular volume that refines the vernacular form down to it’s simplest components. Bright orange highlight panels to the main entrance areas bring colour and life to the new community building.

Completion should hopefully occur towards the end of the year, and we look forward to seeing the building in use by the local and wider reaching community.
